If you are a Retiree (retired individual) in Kenya and don’t have any income being derived from either employment, business or rental, you are required to be filing your KRA Returns each year on or before the elapse of the set deadline by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) which is 30th June. How To File KRA Returns For Retirees
Step 1: Visit iTax (KRA Portal)
The first and foremost step in the process of How To File KRA Returns for Retirees in Kenya is to visit iTax (KRA Portal) by using https://itax.kra.go.ke/KRA-Portal/
Step 2: Login Into iTax (KRA Portal)
In this step, you need to enter your KRA PIN Number, KRA Password (iTax Password), solve the arithmetic question (security stamp) and then proceed to click on the “Login” button to access your iTax (KRA Portal) account so as to begin the process of filing KRA Returns for Retirees in Kenya.
Step 3: Click on Returns then File Nil Return
Upon success login into your iTax (KRA Portal) account, on the top menu click on “Returns” then followed by “File Nil Return” from the drop down list of service items on iTax (KRA Portal) account dashboard.
Step 4: Select KRA Tax Obligation
Next, you need to select the KRA Tax Obligation that you are filing the KRA Returns for on iTax (KRA Portal). Since we are filing KRA Returns for Retirees in Kenya, we select “Income Tax – Resident Individual” as the KRA Tax Obligation then click on the “Next” button.
Step 5: Fill In The Income Tax Resident Individual Nil e-Return Form
Once you reach this step in the process of filing KRA Returns for Retirees on iTax (KRA Portal), you are required to fill in the Income Tax Resident Individual Nil e-Return Form by selecting the “Return Period From” which will auto-fill the “Return Period To” i.e if we enter 01/01/2023 it will auto-fill the return period to as 31/12/2023. Once you have filled in the Income Tax Resident Individual Nil e-Return Form, click on the “Submit” button.
Step 6: Download KRA e-Return Acknowledgement Receipt
The last and final step in the process of How to File KRA Returns for Retirees involves the downloading of the e-Return Acknowledgment Receipt (KRA Returns Receipts) that serves as a final confirmation that the KRA Return has been successfully filed, submitted and received by Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) hence the issuance of the KRA e-Return Acknowledgement Receipt. To download the KRA Returns Receipt, click on the link labeled “Download Returns Receipt” to download and save the e-Return Acknowledgement Receipt to device.
