Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) wishes to inform all taxpayers of the procedural requirements regarding the lodging of notices of objection, as stipulated under section 51(2) of the Tax Procedures Act. According to this provision, any taxpayer who disputes a tax decision has the right to lodge a formal notice of objection to the decision within thirty days of receiving notification thereof. This notice must be submitted in writing to the Commissioner.
To streamline this process, KRA mandates that all notices of objection, along with their accompanying documents, be served to the Commissioner in charge of Legal Services & Board Coordination through the iTax platform. This digital platform ensures efficiency and transparency in the objection process, facilitating prompt handling and resolution.
However, in cases where documents cannot be uploaded on iTax due to technical constraints or other reasons, alternative avenues for submission are provided. Taxpayers are instructed to serve such documents directly to the Commissioner of Legal Services & Board Coordination. This can be accomplished either by emailing the documents to [email protected] or by physically delivering them to the designated Independent Review of Objections (IRO) offices located across various regions of Kenya.
Here are the specific locations of the Independent Review of Objections (IRO) offices for taxpayers’ reference:
- Nairobi Region: 7th Floor of Ushuru Pension Towers, Elgon Road, Upper Hill, Nairobi.
- Southern Region: 3rd Floor, Room 301, Customs House, Mombasa.
- Northern Region: 4th Floor of Kitengela Mall, Nairobi Namanga Road, Kitengela.
- Central Region: 3rd Floor of Thika House, Kwame Nkrumah Road, Thika.
- Western Region: 1st Floor of Lake Basin Mall, Off Kisumu Kakamega Highway, Kisumu.
- North Rift Region: 7th Floor of Kiptagich House, Uganda Road, Eldoret.
- South Rift Region: 5th Floor of Generations House, Kenyatta Avenue, Nakuru.
KRA emphasizes the importance of taxpayers adhering to these guidelines for the efficient servicing of objections. For any queries or clarifications regarding the objection process, taxpayers are encouraged to reach out to KRA Contact Centre.
They can do so by dialing the following telephone numbers: 020 4 999 999 or 0711 099 999. Alternatively, inquiries can be directed via email to [email protected]. KRA remains committed to providing assistance and ensuring transparency in tax-related matters, thereby fostering compliance and accountability within the taxpayer community.
